Christmas in Las Vegas?

I know what you are all thinking Las Vegas for Christmas sounds different than our usual Holiday traditions. It definitely isn’t on the top of your list of things to do around Christmas but after all Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps open 24 hrs 7 days a week 365 days of the year. The city surprisingly offers a number of wonderfully festive displays & fun events if you happen to be planning a December vacation. Here are some attractions you may want to check out when planning a Christmas getaway to Las Vegas.

One of the top rated attractions famous in Las Vegas is the Bellagio Gardens seasonal wonderland which has gained worldwide recognition. The centerpiece is a 42 foot tall Christmas tree with 7000 lights, which is surrounded by a variety of festive displays including several 14-foot toy soldiers, massive snow globes with holiday scenes, and polar bears made completely out of flowers.

Another less busy hidden gem giving the Bellagio is located at the Wynn hotel. The gold and silver theme at The Wynn is absolutely enchanting. One of the most amazing sights is a magical winter wonderland village in which a gold train carrying presents circles around over 30 beautifully decorated trees and golden poinsettias create an elegant holiday setting like no other in Vegas.

About 20 minutes or so from the strip you will find the impressive light display at Ethel M. Chocolate Factory in Henderson is well worth the detour off The Strip. Besides molded chocolates in the shapes of Santa, reindeer and chocolate houses, the chocolate factory turns its outdoor three-acre cactus garden into a chocolate wonderland. Among the 300 different species of cacti are 500,000 lights, holiday sculptures, and other festive displays.

Winter Parq at the Linq Promenade is a festive month-long celebration featuring nightly snowfall, a High Roller light show, and a free holiday-themed show. There are more than 40 shops and restaurants to explore, and of course, if you want to spend a few bucks you can enjoy fabulous views of The Strip via the High Roller, which at 550 feet, stands as the world’s tallest observation wheel.

The Venetian and Palazzo holiday display is another attraction although not as extravagant as the displays found at The Bellagio and the Wynn, these 2 resorts are still worth a walk through for a glimpse at the beautiful set up which includes over-sized ornaments, golden snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, reindeer displays, a beautiful Love Sculpture by artist Laura Kimpton and 1000’s of gorgeous plants including traditional Christmas poinsettias.

Ice skating at The Cosmopolitan the large 4200 square foot real ice rink at the beautiful Cosmopolitan offers a truly unique setting for ice skating where you can glide along while surrounded by the dazzling lights & energy of The Strip. And if you are craving more of a traditional winter recreational experience, you are in luck as it snows every half hour! You can even roast S’mores by the fire and order specialty holiday drinks! Ice skating at the Cosmopolitan is an exhilarating winter experience in Vegas and a definite add to your Vegas bucket list if you don’t mind shelling out a few bucks.

Glittering lights at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this drive-thru light show is one of the biggest holiday events in the state, featuring millions of colorful lights and displays. Quite pricey at 20 bucks, although worth it if you are looking for more holiday activities to add to your itinerary.

Magical Forest at Opportunity Village is one the most recognized charitable organizations in the Vegas Valley and its Magical Forest is a beloved holiday tradition now in its 25th year. The popular annual attraction features trees decked with millions of lights and interactive entertainment like an enchanted carousel, avalanche slide, mini-golf, Santa mugging for photos in his workshop and the Forest Express passenger train from which to view it all.

Although traditions are important they can be predictable this year plan on getting away and head to Las Vegas and stop by to check out one of these or many more attractions this city has to offer.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Holiday Lighting

Christmas lights are either a hit or miss during the Holiday Season. We have all seen some displays that make you cringe as you drive past them. Putting up Christmas lights is not a science but rather as a fun time for those enthusiasts. For others hanging Christmas Lights is just a headache that they rather not deal with. Regardless of your view here are some tips and Do’s and Don’ts of Christmas lighting;

Do: Plan ahead visualize your display, measure your home and layout you desire for your display and buy lights accordingly.

Do: Be a good neighbor remember there is a certain holiday light etiquette to follow which includes not leaving your lights up year round, avoid bright lights in front of your neighbor’s window or be sure to turn off by a considerable time so neighbors are not disturbed.

Do: If your electric bill is a concern during the holidays consider switching to LED lights to save on energy costs.

Do: Store your lights nice and organized to avoid strings from tangling when not in use.  Also, remember to store your lights in a dark place when the holidays are over. Red, green, blue and purple lights, especially will lose their color due to fading.

Don’t: Overwork your extension cord invest in heavy-duty extension cords that are listed for outdoor use.

Don’t : Do not leave your lights on around the clock. Use timers to set the time you would like your holiday display to turn on and off every night.

Don’t: Do not leave your light out too long after the holidays are over. Sun, wind, rain, and snow will take a toll on Christmas lights. The longer you leave the lights out the sooner you will have to replace them. Typically people wait till after Thanksgiving to put up their lights and will wait till around January 6th to take their lights down.

Don’t: Do not tempt to hang Christmas lights if you do not have the right equipment or if you do not feel confident on climbing a ladder as this can end up costing you more if you accidentally fall off a roof or a ladder.

DO: Call professionals who can help you design a display tailored to your home and your vision and color choice. Not to mention a professional company will have the right equipment and knowledge on where in how to hang string your lights to better show off the features of your home.

Lights, Music, Christmas!

Christmas only comes around once a year and lots of people take advantage of this to go all out with their Christmas lights, and I mean ALL OUT. There are two routes you can take when the time comes to hang your Christmas lights, the most popular one being using the traditional way to light up a home, most commonly hanging lights on the eaves of the home, around garage door, roof lines, and windows. Typically, this type of design uses C7’s and C9’s in incandescent and LED light bulbs and using icicle lights. Some people use nature to their advantage by decorating their bushes and trees to add a little extra pop to their home using mini lights. The second route being exactly what I was talking about before, going all out. From having an excessive amount of lights to your home to putting on a whole music show just for this cheery holiday. Yes, you read this right, a music show … you might be a little confused so let me break it down for you a bit. This unique idea requires people to actually put up lights on their home to go along with the music they put on. The lights will flash, make patterns, and sometimes even spell out words all to put on a fun show that people will enjoy and have a good time doing so. Instead of waiting till the last minute to put up Christmas lights some people will actually start decorating for Christmas a couple of months earlier than they need to because their choice of display will take that long to put together. An increasing amount of people are choosing to hire professional Christmas lighting companies to install their lighting display. Why not just do it yourself? Now as you know some people do not have enough time to do all of this which is part of the reasons why we usually wait till the last minute, due to work or just being busy all the time with no free time to spare, so putting up Christmas lights is the last of your worries. Here at the Christmas kings we offer a full service which includes installation, supplies, service, and removal of the Christmas lights from your home. Patriotic Decor and Lighting for Memorial Day

memorial day bbq

Memorial day is the unofficial kickstart to Summer and grilling season. The reason we celebrate Memorial Day is to honor and remember men and women who have died while in service for the United States. Many families will travel for a short vacation, or some will stick to local activities like going to the beach or a good old backyard BBQ at home with family and friends. Decorating with a touch of patriotism can be done by incorporating lighting in your backdyard. Bistro lighting can be strung over your pool or backyard to light up your celebration after sunset. You can also use mini lights to light up bushes and wrap trees in your backyard using red, white and blue ligths. Incorporating flags to your table decor using red, white and blue plates, napkins and utensils can also add a touch of patriotism to your festivities.

Holiday Lighting Planning Tips

IMG_2378 watermark

Lighting up the exterior lights on homes, trees, fences, porches, and any outdoor spaces can be fun and creating a unique display for your home, business, HOA Community or shopping center can take some planning. From the simplicity of white lights to the colorful, twinkling light shows, there are many ways to make your holiday display merry and bright. Here are some holiday lighting ideas and tips to get you started.

  • Pick a color scheme. Look at your exterior holiday lights like you would your landscaping. Consider what you want to highlight and decide on a color scheme. Do you want multi-colored lighting, white lights, or maybe one or two colors (like blue and white or red and green)? Where do you want your colors to accent your home and yard?
  • Choose a theme. To make your holiday lights an attractive accent to your home decide on a theme that will pull it all together. You could do Santa’s Workshop, a gingerbread house, Victorian, a nativity scene, Rudolph and the eight other raindeers, a winter wonderland of snowflakes and icicle lights, or whatever sparks your excitement.
  • Make a lighting blueprint. Stand at the front of your property and look at your holiday lighting opportunities: roofline, doors, windows, walkways, posts, fences, trees, shrubs, and walls. Decide where you are going to just string lights and where you want to wind them onto other items, like wreaths and garlands. Take a photo of your house and yard, and then draw over it to show where your lights will go. This step will help you visualize the look, and decide whether you need fewer or more lights.
  • Get creative. When you’re thinking about lighting outside your house, think outside the box. Lights can be used in creative ways with a variety of colors to choose from making your choices endless.
  • Explore your choice of lights. It can be overwhelming when you walk into a store to look for holiday lights. You have more choices than ever for size and shape, flickering or not, electric or battery-operated, and incandescent or LED. The candle-shaped lights you see in the older movies are C7 and C9, and the large size means brighter dots of color. The miniature light strands come in a broad range of lengths and color choices. Combining the lights can give you a more interesting look. And remember that LED lights use less energy than the incandescent version, so if you’re using a lot of holiday lights, make sure you’ve calculated your energy use.
  • You also have the option of hiring a professional holiday lighting company we at The Christmas Kings are here to help we are a full-service company we design, install, service and remove all your holiday lighting making it stress-free and hassle-free for you.  Call us today for a free quote at (951)402-2000 or check us out online at www.TheChristmasKings.com
